The circular reasoning is only the start of the problems here. This picture also demonstrates the problem of non-falsifiability, a method of evaluating theories which says that if there are no conditions under which your theory could be proven false, then it’s not much of a theory.
In other words, sometimes the most powerful counter-argument to any theory is to ask the person who holds that theory: “Under what conditions could your theory be proven false?” If they cannot answer you, then there’s not much point in discussing anything further, is there?
